easy breathe physio

Specialist respiratory physiotherapist based in Exeter, Devon

Julia, physio specialising in breathing pattern disorders

Hi, I’m Julia Gamlen, a respiratory physiotherapist with a special interest in treating disordered breathing and 33 years of clinical experience in the NHS, based in Exeter, Devon.

If you are looking for help with unpleasant symptoms related to your breathing I can help you. You might not have any significant underlying health issue, or you could be living with a condition such as asthma, COPD, or Long Covid.

You may be experiencing:

  • Shortness of breath going uphill or upstairs, or even at rest
  • Difficulties with talking
  • Fatigue
  • A persistent cough, blocked nose or sinus problems
  • Snoring
  • The feeling of not being able to get enough air in
  • Difficulty breathing during your chosen sport

By carrying out a thorough, holistic assessment I will help you understand what is happening with your breathing, and work with you on a treatment plan to help you feel better.

You may have already been seen by your GP or a hospital doctor to rule out or treat any significant underlying cause for your symptoms, or you may choose to book in for a ‘breathing MOT’ if you are looking for a diagnosis or would like to optimize your breathing. I will carry out an individualized and detailed assessment using widely recognized and validated methods. On request, I will communicate findings with your GP or specialist doctor for their consideration. You may wish for information to be shared with your workplace or educational establishment.

The reasons for the symptoms that you are experiencing will be discussed and clearly explained. I will create a personalized treatment plan for you, adapted to suit your needs. This may include breathing exercises, myofascial release and myofunctional techniques, and/or the use of equipment.

You can be seen either at the South West MS Centre in Exeter or a home visit can be arranged.

Take a look at the Conditions page for more information on the breathing-related conditions that I can help you with.
